The Brisbane International presented by Suncorp reaches a major milestone in 2018 – the tenth edition.
Since 2009, the tournament has been cemented at the start of the world’s sporting calendar, launching the player’s favourite season – Australia’s summer of tennis.
The tournament honour roll includes names such as Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer and Andy Murray, who has announced his much anticipated return in 2018. The Brit insisted on starting his year in the Sunshine State, knowing that after an injury break, the tournament will serve as the best possible preparation for the Australian Open.
Other big name players are expected to commit to the tournament in the coming months, as more players turn to Brisbane as the launch pad for the Australian Open series.
“Time and time again players are requesting to start their summer in Brisbane,” said Tournament Director Geoff Quinlan.
“The feedback we get from our players every year is encouraging.
“To have two of the top three men confirmed for Brisbane in 2018 goes to show how well respected the event is, and hopefully fans are feeling as excited as we are to be courtside in Brisbane this summer.”
The event kicks off on December 31 with Kids Day, which offers free entry for children under the age of 12. Families are encouraged to come and make the most of New Years Eve by starting their day at the tennis, watching the Arena Spectacular in Pat Rafter Arena which features some of the biggest stars in tennis, and live entertainment from singers and kids’ favourite TV characters.
Tickets for the event go on sale October 11 through Ticketek.
