The Suncorp Kids Tennis Day will kick off Brisbane International 2017 on Sunday 1 January, with women’s No.1 Angelique Kerber (GER), Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza (ESP), world No.8 Dominic Thiem (AUT) and Grigor Dimitrov all taking part in a fun-filled day of activities.
Despite the presence of three of the world’s best players on the first day of the new year, as usual the stars of the show at Queensland Tennis Centre will be the youngsters themselves.
Cartoon characters will be on hand to entertain children of all ages, with under-16s able to come in for free. A wide range of free activities will also be available, including mini tennis, rock climbing, virtual reality, face painting and the Rado speed serve.
The action will then move to Pat Rafter Arena, where Kerber, Muguruza and Thiem will showcase their talents – and playful side – in a series of fun matches and activities.
Bonnie Anderson, who won the first Australia’s Got Talent reality show as a 12 year old in 2007, will then perform her hits live on court.
Brisbane International Tournament Director Geoff Quinlan said: “The Suncorp Kids Day is always one of the highlights of the Brisbane International, and we are delighted Angelique, Garbine and Dominic have all agreed to take part and entertain the children. It should be a great day out for all the family, and is the perfect way to way to raise the curtain on Brisbane International 2017.”
Tickets to Suncorp Kids Tennis Day are on sale now via Ticketek. Adult tickets cost just $20, and under-16s can come in for free when accompanied by a paying adult.
