Australian favourite and tour mum Casey Dellacqua has taken time out to cheer up children at the Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland on Friday.
The 31-year-old, who is returning to doubles action alongside countrywoman Ash Barty for the Brisbane International 2017 presented by Suncorp, visited the South Brisbane facility where she met one of the young families staying at the house with their sick five-month-old son and two-year-old daughter.
“I know the work Ronald McDonald House does, I have a couple of kids myself so I understand the benefit of the facility for families like this,” Dellacqua said.
In a fruitful partnership now in its third year, the Brisbane International has donated almost $200,000 to its official charity, the Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland.
During her visit, Dellacqua toured the facility, which was opened to the families of sick children in October.
“Look at the view it’s pretty nice,” she said. “The RMH is a great spot for kids that come from afar, when you’ve got kids it’s nice to come to a place where you feel at home.”
Throughout the tournament, $250 is donated to the charity for every ace served. Last year, 332 aces were served on Pat Rafter Arena, with tournament partner Treasury Casino & Hotel donating $83,000 to Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland as part of the Aces for Hearts initiative.
“Hopefully Stan Wawrinka and a couple of the big guys can serve a few bombs down and help raise as much money for Ronald McDonald House as they can,” Dellacqua said.
Chief executive of the South Brisbane facility, Christopher Macaulay, said the charity had enjoyed a great partnership with the tournament.
“The Brisbane International has helped us greatly to build this house in their support, so we thank them for partnering with us again in 2017,” he said.
