Sixth seed Goffin charges past Bellucci

No.6 seed David Goffin of Belgium opened his Brisbane International campaign with a straight-sets win on Tuesday, holding off Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-4 on Pat Rafter Arena.

Serbian Viktor Troicki was also a winner to start Day 3’s action, beating American Steve Johnson 7-6(3), 6-1 on Show Court 2.

Troicki sets up a second round clash with Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, while Goffin awaits the winner of Japanese qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka and France’s Lucas Pouille.

Goffin broke the Brazilian, Bellucci, three times and won 68 per cent of points on his own serve, closing out the win in 82 minutes.
