Dog gone as Klizan saves six match points

7 January 2015, by brisbaneinternational.com.au

Slovak Martin Klizan has overturned a 6-1 opening-set loss and survived six match points to edge out Ukrainian former Brisbane International finalist Alexandr Dolgopolov in a third-set tiebreak in men’s second-round action.

The world No.34 upset the world No.23, sneaking two tiebreak sets to register a 1-6 7-6(6) 7-6(7) result and a place in the quarterfinals.

After seventh seed Dolgopolov’s departure, it leaves the top four seeds, who have yet to complete a match after being given first-round byes, as the only seeds left in the men’s draw.

Klizan will face the winner of Wednesday afternoon’s second round match between Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov and France’s Jeremy Chardy.
