The Brisbane International is the place to be on New Year’s Day for Suncorp SunWise Kids Day.
“It’s a fun family day out with activities for people of all ages and tennis abilities. Entry is free for children 16 years and under,” said Brisbane International Tournament Director Cameron Pearson.
“Last year was the first time this event was staged and more than 2000 kids attended the Queensland Tennis centre on this day,” he added.
Suncorp SunWise Kids Day swings into action at 10 am on 1 January 2013 and all kids will receive a free accreditation pass prior to entering the precinct and be supplied with a free show bag full of goodies.
“The idea is for kids to come here and enjoy themselves and think tennis,” Pearson expressed.
“They can play Tennis Hot Shots on the mini courts, have their photo taken with the Brisbane International trophies, meet Terry the Tennis Ball, stop by for some art and crafts or enjoy the jumping castle and rock climbing wall whilst soaking up the world-class tennis action on the match courts,” Pearson said.
“There will be loads of activities for the kids to participate in, and when they are worn out they can enjoy some of the child friendly entertainment scheduled on the day.”
Youngsters will also get the chance to meet some of their favourite tennis stars.
Brisbane International 2010 champion Kim Clijsters was one of the players at Suncorp SunWise Kids Tennis Day last year and is a supporter of children playing sport.
“In general to get kids to play sport is a role that any athlete out there, no matter what sport they play, have to promote,“ Clijsters said. “I think it is part of a healthy lifestyle and I think tennis is overall a great sport.”
To attend Suncorp SunWise Kids Day children must register prior to the event.
