Day 2 of Brisbane International 2012 – Kids Tennis Day – promises to be a blockbuster with some standout matches scheduled for Pat Rafter Arena and the Show Courts, and free ground pass entry for kids aged 3–16!
Kids Tennis Day kicks off at 9:00am when gates open. Make sure you grab your accreditation and Kids Day Showbag on your way to one of the many activities planned for the day. There’s something for everyone throughout the day so make sure to visit Kids Zone, Tennis Central and most importantly Terry’s MLC Hot Shots Tennis Zone so you can sharpen your on-court skills.
On court, US Open 2011 finalists Sam Stosur and Serena Williams are both on the Pat Rafter Arena dance card, albeit one will play during the day session, while the other will open the first night session of the tournament.
Fans looking forward to a re-match between these two big hitters will have to wait, at least until the semifinals if all goes to plan for both players.
Williams is second on Pat Rafter Arena against South Africa’s Chanelle Scheepers, in what will be the pair’s first meeting. Stosur, meanwhile, will take on Anastasiya Yakimova at 7 pm.
Opening play at Pat Rafter Arena is former French Open champion and world No.1 Ana Ivanovic who is up against Austrian No.1 Tamira Paszek. Ivanovic – a quarterfinalist in 2009 and semifinalist in 2010 – is playing her third Brisbane International.
Closing out the day session under the roof is Queensland’s Bernard Tomic. The Wimbledon quarterfinalist plays Frenchman Julien Benneteau. These two are separated by 10 ranking places and 11 years. Tomic will like his chances of winning through to the second round for the first time at his home event.
And in the final Pat Rafter Arena match, Marcos Baghdatis and rising American Ryan Harrison will take to Pat Rafter Arena in what promises to be an entertaining match.
