What’s so good about tennis?

7 January 2011, by Brisbane International Tennis

If you aren’t already an avid tennis fan, then I am going to give you five good reasons why you should become one.

Being fairly new to “loving” tennis myself; or watching sports at all come to think of it, I can sympathise with the confusion as to why you should roll off your couch and go watch a live match, or watch a match at all. But, here it is:

1. Tennis unlike most other sports only involves 2-4 players – i.e. having only a minimal number of people standing on a court allows you to follow your favourite, as opposed to trying to follow 26 men/women running around on a field, juggling a ball and doing all sorts of things you can’t keep up with.

2. Tennis doesn’t force you to choose a colour and paint yourself up to look like a smurf, draped in a flag to attend (you can though, if you wish).

3. The scoring in tennis is fairly easy to follow… it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense unless you do a little research and learn that 15, 30 and 40 supposedly came from Medieval times and a sun dial?  But, following it is pretty damn easy.

4. Tennis players don’t generally wear uniforms (pro players anyway), so players bring with them personality to the court, rather than simply looking like Lemmings’ (aesthetics are always important).

5. And lastly… it really is a great game to watch; it involves skill, thought and tactic and draws you in like a really good crime movie, begging you to stay til the end.

Like I said, if you aren’t already a passionate fan, then why not consider the above and give it a go?  Come down to the Brisbane International and see what you think.

Tickets are still available for Brisbane International 2011 from Ticketek.
