Another seed takes a tumble

5 January 2011, by Brisbane International Tennis

Men’s sixth seed Feliciano Lopez has succumbed to unseeded South African Kevin Anderson in their second-round encounter on Wednesday, 6-3 6-1.

On Monday Lopez withdrew from the doubles event with a virus and it appeared to still be taking its toll on the Spaniard.

Lopez didn’t have a single chance to break throughout the match as Anderson showed no mercy as he took his chance to move into the quarterfinals.

Anderson fired down 15 aces on his way to victory, winning 89 per cent of points off hs first serve. He’ll now play Colombian Santiago Giraldo who ousted Benjamin Becker, who upset third seed Fernando Verdasco in the opening round.
