Day 2 of Brisbane International 2010 starts with a couple of high-octane encounters in both the men’s and women’s draws.
Jelena Dokic and Ana Ivanovic will face each other for the first time in their professional careers in the second match of the day at Pat Rafter Arena.
The Australian comeback sensation of the 2009 season arrives in Brisbane as the 56th-ranked player on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, which is 122 places better than when she lost to Amelie Mauresmo here last year.
Ivanovic, the third-seeded Serbian, should be ready for the hot and humid conditions, after spending the last part of 2009 preparing for the new season in Queensland.
Justine Henin will make her much-anticipated comeback to the professional circuit in the next match at Pat Rafter Arena. The former number one will face a hard first-round meeting with second seed Nadia Petrova from Russia who unfortunately plucked Henin’s name out of the hat during Saturday’s draw.
Beginning the day at Pat Rafter Arena is Frenchman Richard Gasquet and Jarkko Nieminen from Finland. The clash promises to be an entertaining first-round match between two players looking to regain the form that had them in the top 20 of the ATP World Tour rankings not long ago.
Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic starts his title defence in Tennyson with an evening session opener against hometown favourite John Millman in what will be the 20-year-old Queenslander’s ATP World Tour debut.
The final match at Pat Rafter Arena sees top seed Andy Roddick take on experienced Australian Peter Luczak, the last of 15 local players in action on Monday.
Also playing on Day 2 are Casey Dellacqua, Daniela Hantuchova and Gold Coaster Bernard Tomic who will all feature on the show courts.
