Nervous players preparing to contest the Brisbane International will find out their collective first-round fates on Saturday when the draw is held in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.
This year there are a swarm of dangerous unseeded players hiding in the draw ready to sting any unsuspecting opponents.
Former world No.1 Justine Henin, back for her first tournament since retiring while holding the world No.1 spot in May 2008, is the Queen of the unseeded legion at this year’s Brisbane International.
Standing alongside Henin and hoping to cause some carnage in the draw are Richard Gasquet, the former top 10 Frenchman, and Australians Alicia Molik, Casey Dellacqua and Jelena Dokic.
Reigning men’s champion Radek Stepanek and Russia’s Nadia Petrova will be on hand to assist with tomorrow’s draw duties.
The draw will be held opposite Myer in the Queen Street Mall, giving fans the opportunity to hear from Stepanek and Petrova, who will be interviewed by MC Craig Willis.
At the inaugural Brisbane International, Czech Radek Stepanek surprised a competitive men’s field featuring Novak Djokovic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Marcos Baghdatis to upset fancied Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in a tight men’s final.
A top 20 regular and former top 3 player, Nadia Petrova has nine WTA Tour titles to her name and is a dual French Open semifinalist.
Fans are invited to come and watch the draw as the Brisbane International prepares for the main draw, which begins this Sunday.
