An all-Australian battle between Jessica Moore and Anastasia Rodionova tops the billing for the first day of qualifying in the Brisbane International at the Queensland Tennis Centre tomorrow.
The pair is among seven Australian women involved in the first official day of play for Brisbane International 2010.
West Australian Moore is ranked 220 and coming back from an injury interrupted year. The Melbourne-based Rodionova has fought her way back into the top 100 this year after her own injury woes and will be playing her first domestic summer since officially being confirmed an Australian citizen.
Queensland teenagers Monika Wejnert and Isabella Holland will also feature tomorrow as will Jarmila Groth, Olivia Rogowska and Sally Peers.
Rogowska appears to have the toughest assignment, against 109th ranked Belarusian Anastasiya Yakimova. Wejnert meets 118th ranked Ukranian Mariya Koryttseva, while Holland will play Ekaterina Ivanova (141). Groth will take on Russian Elena Chalova (152) while Peers will be the first of the Australians on court at noon when she plays Czech Andrea Hlavackova (174).
“For just a gold coin donation to a worthy charity, Queensland tennis fans can watch some quality Australian talent in action,” Brisbane International Tournament Director Steve Ayles said.
“This is a great chance to see world class tennis up close and personal.”
Gates open at 9:00 am with the price of admission a gold coin.
Brisbane International 2010 series packages and single sessions are on sale now. Ground passes remain $9.90 with the qualifying event on Friday 1–2 January 2010 remaining free.
